The inspiration for "Wukong" comes from the image of Sun Wukong in the ancient Chinese myth "Journey to the West". He is a spiritual monkey born from a celestial stone. With extraordinary abilities, he is resourceful, brave and has a strong hatred for evil. He was conferred the title of "Great Sage Equaling Heaven" by the Jade Emperor. He once made havoc in Heaven and later, after being enlightened, protected Tang Monk on his journey to obtain Buddhist scriptures from the Western Heaven.
